Robins Deal Devils 8-4 Defeat
|
The Detroit Devils got a superb performance from catcher Wes Smith, but the St. Louis Robins still won the game, 8-4. Smith went 3-5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. St. Louis reliever César Sandoval got the win, raising his record to 1-0. George Jackson was tagged with the loss. St. Louis has 5 straight wins, Detroit 3 straight losses.
St. Louis used the bat of Vince Murphy to get the win. The first baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Robins ahead, 5-4. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"We'll kick back tonight and enjoy this win," said Murphy.
