Decepticons Come Up Short at Los Angeles, 3-2
|
Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Los Angeles Shockers got the win.
Behind a fine performance from Jason Combs, the Los Angeles Shockers knocked off the Portland Decepticons, 3-2. Combs was 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Shockers. The winner in relief was Artie Nichols. He is now 4-4. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 7 hits in 5.2 innings.
With Los Angeles leading 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Combs hit a slider from Jim Wilson for a 2-run home run. It was his 18th home run of the season and put the Shockers ahead, 3-0.
"Tough loss," said Portland manager Sonic Russell. "But we'll learn from it."
Los Angeles is now 65-68. Portland is 57-74.
