Denver starter Don Barnard pitched well against the Detroit Devils at Mile Long Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a win, 7-6. Denver reliever Steve Rice picked up the win, upping his record to 2-2. Dale Doss absorbed the loss. With the win, Denver pushed its record to 77-56.

The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Katniss Smith came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Detroit pitcher Dale Doss, he hit a 2-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Denver on top, 6-5.

"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Smith.
