The New York Cobra got a magnificent effort from pitcher Stephen Hamburg, who kept Detroit hitters in check en route to a 2-1 Cobra win at Cobra Stadium. New York reliever Elmer Stephens picked up the win, upping his record to 3-2. John Berg shouldered the loss. With the win, New York upped its record to 72-67.
Michael Hopkins, who is tied for 7th in the MC in extra base hits with 62, chipped in for New York with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the left fielder had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 1 run batted in.
Hamburg said the team appreciates the support from the fans. "I'm glad we could reward them with a good win," he said after the game.
