Spiders Lose Again, 4-1, to Mud Hens
|
The Toledo Mud Hens topped the Cleveland Spiders, 4-1, in Superior Conference action at Toledo Ballpark. The standout performance belonged to Toledo right fielder and Franklin, Indiana, native Cary Lee. Dorian Ivey earned the win for Toledo. He lasted 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits, while striking out 4. With the win, he raised his record to 17-9. Jesus Palmeiro was credited with the save, his 33rd in 38 tries.
In the top of the seventh, Ed Jones stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Spiders were trailing 4-1, but had runners on 2nd and 3rd. That's when John Morgan made a terrific pitch and Jones lined out. Gone was the dream of a Cleveland comeback.
The win elevated the Mud Hens to 79-59.
