Bear Torches Utes for 5 Hits
Even as a kid, Wellington Gehrig Bear said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At Popcorn Dome today, Bear showed how well he learned that lesson.

The 40-year-old first baseman had 5 hits in 5 at-bats for the Hawaii Hounddogs, helping his team knock off the Utah Utes by a score of 7-5.

"They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did today."

Wellington Gehrig Bear singled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Andrew Clayton in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, hit a two-run double in the 7th and singled in the 9th.

Bear on the season is batting .285 with 17 home runs. His totals include 71 RBIs and 61 runs scored. He has played in 143 games.
