The Los Angeles Shockers got a superb performance from pitcher Ken Caffey. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Detroit. The Devils won the game, 2-1. Caffey came in in relief and pitched to 24 batters. Detroit reliever Ricky Conway picked up the win, while Allan Stroud took the loss for Los Angeles. With the win, Detroit raised its record to 85-63.

The Devils got a big at-bat from first baseman Wes Smith. For the game, Smith went 1-4 with a double. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 9th double of the season gave Detroit a 1-0 lead.

Smith told a Detroit Gazette reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
