The Charlotte Hawks got a magnificent effort from pitcher Barrett Cordova, who kept Mars hitters in check en route to a 2-1 Hawks win at Mars Field. The winner was Charlotte reliever Leonardo Sanchez, now 1-1. The loser was Evan Alfaro. Adrian Banuelos got the save, his 47th in 53 chances.

Charlotte used the timely hitting of Michael Sampson to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Hawks on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

Cordova told a Charlotte Gazette reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.

The victory gives Charlotte a record of 85-69.
