Spiders Cut Down Robins, 4-1
|
The Cleveland Spiders racked up a win at Cleveland Grounds, bumping off the St. Louis Robins, 4-1. Hunter Hunter, who started for Cleveland, pitched effectively for his team. Hunter picked up the win for Cleveland, going 6 innings. He gave up no runs on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 15-13. David Lewis earned his 46th save in 48 tries.
The Spiders got a big hit from catcher Howard Jenkins. In the bottom of the sixth, Jenkins pounded a run-scoring triple to left-center. His 2nd triple of the season put the Spiders ahead, 2-0.
"The team always comes first, so pulling out the win on a day like today is the most important thing," Jenkins told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that."
With the victory, the Spiders upped their record to 83-73.
