|
Hawaii beat Portland on the strength of starter Victor Mendez's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 4-2. The winning pitcher was Mendez, now 15-4. He tossed 8 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 3. The Hounddogs go to 63-94 with the win.
Hawaii relied on the hitting of Darrell Galindo to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Hounddogs on top, 4-2. For the game, Galindo had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Hawaii manager Angel Rodriguez. "It's usually not just one thing."
