Gamblers Come Up Short at New York, 5-4
|
In a close game at New York Grounds, the New York Knights edged the Las Vegas Gamblers, 5-4. New York designated hitter Ricardo Rosario stood apart with his performance. He was 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times. The winning pitcher was Edward Berry. He's now 1-0. He went 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits for the Knights. Earning his 1st save for New York was Jerry Foster.
The Knights got a big at-bat from right fielder Michael Vaughn. For the game, Vaughn was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the third, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave New York a 3-2 lead.
"You can't take yourself too seriously," Rosario told the New York News. "But at the end of the day, we do play to win ballgames."
