The New York Cobra relied on the hitting of first baseman Miguel Velez to stop the Los Angeles Shockers, 5-3. For the game, Velez went 1 for 2 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The win puts New York at 25-9 this season.

Velez had a timely hit for New York in the bottom of the seventh. With Los Angeles trailing 2-0, he turned a 2-1 fastball into a 3-run home run. It was his 5th home run of the season, making it 3-2, New York.
