The Chicago Winds topped the Utah Utes, 3-1, in Superior Conference action at Popcorn Dome. The standout performance belonged to Chicago pitcher and San Francisco, California, native Yodano Ventura. Ventura, now 4-2, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. With the win, Chicago has a record of 18-20. Utah falls to 21-18.
The Winds benefited from an error in the top of the third inning. Chicago was leading 1-0 when Leon Morales hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put Chicago in front, 2-0.
"We faced good pitching and still got it done," said Morales.
