Wright Walks Away from the Game
Friday, April 12th , 2024
His Philadelphia Grays teammates were not terribly surprised when Robert Wright announced his retirement today.

In a low-key affair, Wright explained his rationale.

"My aches and pains have caught up with me. They don't seem to go away like they used to when I was a kid," he said. "I'm spending more and more time in the trainer's room and less and less time preparing for my next game. I've come to a realization that I've done what I can in this game and spending more time playing baseball is just stealing from my future self."

When asked, the team manager noted "Robert has always been an honest man and when he says he's done, well, he's done."

Wright has appeared in 433 games in his career, picked up 142 saves, tossed 534.2 innings and posted a 38-39 record. He has a lifetime ERA of 3.25.
