The Green Day Dukes got a sterling performance from pitcher Nate Brown, but the Charlotte Hawks still prevailed, 5-3. Brown threw 5.2 innings allowing 3 runs. Charlotte pitcher William Bell earned the win, hiking his record to 4-0. Gregory Jones suffered the loss. Adrian Banuelos notched his 26th save in 30 chances.
The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Nathan Chapman came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Green Day pitcher Gregory Jones, he hit a first pitch changeup for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Charlotte on top, 4-3.
"It was a solid, all-around game for us," said Charlotte manager Omar Gomez.
Charlotte is now 48-30, Green Day 34-45.
