Winds Rack Up 3-2 Win Versus Cleveland
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Chicago Winds and the Cleveland Spiders, 32-year old right-handed pitcher Joe Clayton was the difference-maker. The Chicago right-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. In 6 innings, Clayton surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 3. He allowed no runs. Mark Hunter got the save, his 26th in 29 chances.
Javier Soto had a big solo home run for the Winds in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Chicago leading 2-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a cutter from three-time All-Star Jorge Solis and punished it. The result was his 14th home run of the season, which put the Winds on top, 3-0.
"I'm happy we won," said Clayton. "That's first and foremost. My goal is for the team to win the day I pitch, however it's done."
The setback makes Cleveland 69-72.
