The Charlotte Hawks earned a close win over the Toledo Mud Hens, thanks in part to Alex Munoz. The Charlotte left-hander, the 5th overall pick in the 2019 draft, played a key role in the 3-2 victory. The winning pitcher was Munoz, now 7-9. He tossed 5.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 6. Leonardo Sanchez, credited with the save, is now 5 for 10 in save opportunities.
Juan Tapia, who leads the SC in total bases with 290, took Toledo hurler Jesus Palmeiro deep in the bottom of the third. His solo home run put the Hawks on top, 3-2. In all, Tapia had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Munoz, "and then get after it again."
With this game in the books, Charlotte is 84-65, Toledo 81-68.
