Utah Beats Miami, 3-1
|
The Utah Utes used a great performance from Juan Gutierrez, who finished 5th in the SC in strikeouts with 253 in 2023, to beat the Miami Stars, 3-1, at Ballpark of Miami. Gutierrez, the winner, moves to 9-12. He threw 6.2 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 2 and giving up 4 walks. Utah is now 79-79, Miami 94-65.
Utah took a 3-1 lead on Fausto Thibodeaux's 15th home run of the season. The solo home run, which Thibodeaux hit in the top of the seventh, left Miami pitcher Mike Ryan visibly frustrated.
"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Thibodeaux told the Utah Times. "You win just by scoring more runs."
