Springfield pitcher Rens Spaan had a large part in his team beating the Cleveland Spiders, 4-0. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. With the loss, Cleveland sinks to 1-1.

The Spiders had little chance against Spaan, who overpowered Cleveland hitters and struck out 11.

"We need better swings, better at-bats," said losing manager Ramon Bernal.
