Spiders Send Mars Home with 3-0 Loss
|
Starting pitcher Nick Irwin was a major factor in the 3-0 Cleveland Spiders triumph over the Mars Eyebiters. Cleveland reliever Kelala Taree was the winner. His record is now 1-3. Neal Giraud took the loss. Cleveland now sits at 29-31, while Mars falls to 19-41.
The Eyebiters had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Spiders going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 31-year old first baseman Chris Goodwin came to the plate. Goodwin hit a run-scoring double on a 1-0 cutter from Mars hurler Neal Giraud. It was Goodwin's 5th double of the year.
Mars manager Kurt Rush, after yet another defeat, said: "We need to recalibrate."
