The Boston Beaneaters used a stellar performance from pitcher Ignacio Robles to throttle the New York offense en route to an extra-inning, 5-2 win at New York Grounds. Boston reliever Scot Johnson picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Ernesto Cantu took the loss. Harvey Lee, who is a two-time All-Star, earned the save for Boston.

Boston needed the clutch hitting of Greg West to seal the deal. The catcher swatted a 3-run home run in the top of the 12th inning to put the Beaneaters on top, 5-2. For the game, West had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"I like our moxie," said Beaneaters manager Mario Pujols.

The loss drops New York to 5-2.
